FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Common questions from EPC engineers and procurement teams about API 619 oil-injected screw compressor packages
What is the difference between API 619 and ISO 10440-1 for screw compressors?
API 619 is the primary standard for rotary-type positive-displacement compressors used in petroleum, chemical, and gas industry services. ISO 10440-1 covers the same scope with international alignment. In practice, most EPC specifications reference API 619 as the baseline; ISO 10440-1 is accepted as equivalent in non-US projects. We design to both standards and can provide compliance matrices upon request.
What gases can your oil-injected screw compressors handle?
Our packages handle a wide range of process gases: natural gas, associated gas, fuel gas, flash gas, vapor recovery gas, nitrogen, CO&sub2;, biogas, and refrigerant vapors. Oil-injected designs are particularly suited for gases that tolerate oil carryover (with downstream coalescers) and where high compression ratios per stage are required. For oil-free requirements, we recommend alternative configurations.
What is the typical compression ratio and discharge pressure range?
Single-stage oil-injected screw compressors can achieve compression ratios up to 15:1 (typically 3:1–8:1 in practice). Discharge pressures range from 0.5 MPa to 4.5 MPa depending on the rotor profile and gas properties. For higher pressures, we offer two-stage configurations or recommend reciprocating solutions.
What auxiliary systems are included in a standard package?
A standard skid-mounted package includes: the compressor with drive motor or gas engine, oil injection and separation system (with coalescing filters to <3 ppm residual oil), suction scrubber/knockout drum, intercooler and aftercooler, vibration monitoring, local control panel (PLC-based), and common baseframe with anti-vibration mounts. Scope boundaries are defined at the proposal stage.
What certifications and third-party inspections are available?
Pressure-containing components comply with ASME BPVC Section VIII or PED 2014/68/EU. Electrical systems can be designed for hazardous area classification (ATEX, IECEx, NEC/CEC). We support third-party inspection by DNV, BV, Lloyd’s, TÜV, and client-appointed inspectors at all critical hold points.
What is the typical delivery timeline?
Standard packages: 12–16 weeks. Custom-engineered packages with full documentation and third-party inspection: 16–24 weeks. We provide a detailed milestone schedule at order confirmation with defined hold/witness points.
