Painting with Water: Lmart Marks International Women’s Day with a Creative Workshop
To celebrate International Women’s Day, Lmart’s women employees gathered for a water-lacquer canvas-tote painting workshop — a relaxed afternoon of creativity and camaraderie.
As March’s spring breeze arrived and everything came back to life, International Women’s Day came round again. To mark the day, Lmart organised something a little different: a water-lacquer painting workshop on plain canvas totes. Set out together, the blank totes and the colourful water-lacquer paints felt like an invitation to create.
Because the painted totes need to dry, the workshop was held on the open ground outside the canteen. Colleagues gathered in twos and threes, eyes bright with curiosity. More experienced hands mixed paints with ease while newcomers asked questions, and the air filled with laughter. For that moment, everyone set aside the brisk professional and became, simply, an artist wanting to express something.
Drops of colour were added to a large tub of water and drawn out with a fine stick; the tote was then eased in and slowly turned so the colour clung to the fabric, emerging as a spread of spring. The flowing water created effects no one could quite plan — a flower meant for the canvas might turn into a sunset instead. Like life itself: we plan, and often it’s the surprises that become the most distinctive beauty. As they worked, everyone traded ideas on colour and inspiration, laughter never far away.
After more than an hour of careful work, one unique, brightly coloured tote after another was born. The women carried their creations carefully and took photos to remember the moment. The bags may not be flawless, but to their makers they are priceless — holding an afternoon of focus and ease, and a moment of setting roles aside and simply being oneself.
Many said it was their first time painting a bag this way; a little clumsy in the doing, but full of accomplishment once the finished piece was in hand. Others said the activity eased work stress and let them feel the company’s care, making the day especially meaningful. A woman’s charm, the afternoon reminded everyone, shows not only in professional skill at work but also in a love of life and a pursuit of beauty.
