FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Common questions from EPC engineers about industrial refrigeration procurement
What documentation do you supply with each refrigeration package?
Every package ships with: general arrangement drawings and 3D model, P&ID, equipment datasheets, electrical single-line diagram (SLD), ITP/QCP, WPS/PQR, NDT records, FAT report with loop check and performance test results, cause-and-effect matrix, spare parts list, refrigerant charge calculation, and complete MDR. Class/CE documentation packs are provided on request.
Which refrigerants do you work with?
We design systems for ammonia (R717), CO₂ (R744), HFO A2L blends, and process-gas refrigerants including propylene, ethane, and ethylene. For ammonia systems, we apply IIAR standards with charge minimization strategies. For CO₂/NH₃ cascade, we design low-charge ammonia primary loops with CO₂ secondary circuits, including transcritical CO₂ where duty and ambient conditions require it.
What safety standards do you follow for ammonia systems?
IIAR standards for ammonia and CO₂ system safety, ASHRAE 15 for general refrigeration safety, and ISO 5149 / EN 378 for safety and environmental requirements. Implementation includes machinery room ventilation design, ammonia leak detection, emergency relief systems, and proper signage. All safety instrumented functions are documented in the cause-and-effect matrix.
Can the packages be delivered for ATEX/IECEx hazardous zones?
Yes. We select Ex-rated instruments, motors, junction boxes, and lighting per the area classification. Implementation includes earthing/bonding, Ex-certified cable glands, ATEX/IECEx labeling, ammonia/refrigerant gas detection, and full compliance documentation. Zone drawings and hazardous area dossiers are included in the MDR.
What is the typical lead time?
Standard refrigeration packages: 10–16 weeks ex-works. Complex multi-stage or cascade systems: 14–20 weeks. Lead time depends on BOM complexity, compressor vendor lead, long-lead instrumentation, and classification or Notified Body reviews. A detailed production schedule with hold/witness points is issued at order confirmation.
Do you support marine class approvals?
Yes. We prepare class documentation packages for DNV, ABS, BV, and CCS. This covers type-approval drawings, material certificates, welding qualifications, NDT reports, and refrigerant system safety assessments aligned with the surveyor’s requirements. Marine refrigeration units have been delivered for cargo conditioning and HVAC brine cooling on carriers and platforms.
