A Community of Care: Lmart Colleagues Rally Behind a Former Worker
When a former workshop colleague faced a serious health crisis, Lmart staff came together to offer support — raising RMB 24,600 through the company union’s appeal.
Life can bring unexpected hardship. Zeng Cheng, once a member of the Lmart workshop, had undergone heart-valve replacement surgery. Unable to continue the physically demanding workshop work afterwards, he left the company in October 2023. In early January 2024 he suffered a post-surgery complication and was admitted to intensive care with kidney failure, requiring daily dialysis — and the high medical costs placed a heavy burden on his family. When colleagues learned that he was fighting his illness, Lmart people reached out with support and encouragement.
On January 25, 2024, the company union issued a company-wide appeal for donations. It met with warm, enthusiastic support: colleagues gave what they could, every contribution was carefully recorded, and together they raised RMB 24,600.
Set against costly medical treatment, the sum may be modest — but it stands for hope. A little kindness from everyone makes the world a warmer place; those who give a rose keep its fragrance on their hands.
